GAMING POINT OF LOU – OCTOBER 2017 NEW VIDEO GAME RELEASES

October 6, 2017 Author: Lou Federico

Welcome Back Everyone!!! I know it’s been a couple of weeks since my last article.  Life, as it has a way of doing, threw some curveballs in my direction, but I did not want the month to go by without touching on the cavalcade of new video game releases. As many long time gamers know, October has a habit of opening up the flood gates, as the largest shopping season of the year is right around the corner, and most companies want their wares on the shelves. Please bear with me, as this list is nowhere near as comprehensive as it normally is. I promise I will make it up to you for November!!

October 3 – Forza Motorsport 7 (PC, X1)

October 5 – Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4, X1)

October 6 – Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy (3DS)

October 6 – Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions (3DS)

Superstar Saga originally released on GBA back in 2003, and immediately broke ground in the RPG scene by allowing you to control both Mario and Luigi simultaneously. Bowsers Minions is a reimaginaing of the original, Allowing you to take control of Captain Goomba, collecting as many “minions” as possible in an effort to SAVE Bowser. That’s right, this one appears to be from the bad guys perspective! An interesting premise to say the least.

October 10 – Middle-Earth: Shadow of War (PS4, X1, PC)

No spoilers here! Shadow of War takes place (obviously) after the events of Shadow of Mordor. Talion (and Celebrimbor) are back for more of what made the first game a smash hit as developer Monolith has promised “more” of everything (why change the forumula that worked so well?) I’m eager to see where the story goes after the shock ending of Shadow of Mordor.

October 13 – The Evil Within 2 (PS4, PC, X1)

October 17 – Gran Turismo Sport (PS4)

South Park: The Fractured But Whole (PS4, X1, PC)

October 20 – Fire Emblem Warriors (3DS, Switch)

Syberia 3 (Switch)

October 24 – Destiny 2 (PC)

October 27 – Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

Assassins Creed: Origins (PS4, X1, PC)

AC:O takes place thousands of years before the events of the first Assassins Creed, transporting us all the way back to aincent Egypt. The open world formula looks to be pretty intact here, with pyramids, mountains, sprawling vistas, swamps, cities etc… Ubisoft Montreal’s attention to detail on this one looks to be impressive. If you are a fan of the AC franchise, you look to be in for a treat.

Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)

Super Mario Odyssey returns Nindendo’s flagship plumber to the realm of 3D. Mario will use his spaceship known as The Odyssey to travel to different worlds in an effort to once again save Peach from the clutches of Bowser. Mario will also be able to use his hat, which is inhabited by a spirit named “Cappy”, to possess everything from goomba’s to T-Rex’s in an effort to save her. The Mario series has always been used to push the boundaries of the traditional platformer, with each game iterating on the last. Odyssey looks to be the culmination of 21 years of lessons learned. (P.S. If Nintendo ever reads this: BRING SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE TO THE SWITCH!!!! DO IT!!!!)

That’s all for this month everyone, I’ll be back on my normal routine from here on out, so expect Novembers list, in a couple of weeks!!

Until then, keep gaming.
