GAMING POINT OF LOU – MAY 2018 NEW VIDEO GAMES

April 27, 2018 Author: Lou Federico

Ahhhh the summer doldrums, where the anticipation for E3 builds, and the new game releases slow to a crawl. After an April with one notable release (God Of War) May rolls in with a somewhat larger list of offerings, albeit many of them are remasters. Towards the end of the month though, we get what I feel is the most interesting title on offer, “Detroit: Become Human”. So scroll on down, and see if anything piques your interest.

May 4th – Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze – Switch

We all know the story of the WiiU, But what many don’t realize is how many awesome games came out on that system. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is one of those games. Now Nintendo’s flagship Simian takes his maiden bow on the Switch with this port. I loved DKCTF on the WiiU and I don’t see myself liking this one any less, especially with the ability to take it on the go.

May 8th – Conan Exiles – PS4, X1, PC

Ok, it’s a Conan game, but it doesn’t actually STAR Conan. Instead, your created character is saved by him at the beginning, and then it is up to you to survive in the appropriately named “Exiled Lands”. You will be balancing hunger, thirst, crafting, and combating enemies and will level up, acquiring better gear to aid you in your journey.

May 18th – Hyrule Warriors Definitive edition – Switch

Another fantastic WiiU game gets the Switch remake. If you haven’t had a chance to play it now is the time to pick it up. Featuring the base game, some new BoTW themed outfits, and including all the content released up to this point. HW:DE is the (pun intended) complete package. No one knew how badly they wanted the worlds of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors to come together until this game released. Now I can’t imagine a world without it.

It’s a zombie survival game, need I say more?

May 25th – Detroit: Become Human – PS4

This game looks incredible, as long as Quantic Dreams story keeps pace with the graphics and gameplay. D:BH will have the chance to challenge for Game Of The Year honors. You take on the role of three androids. Kara: a newly created android, complete with an artificial consciousness, Connor: The “Rick Deckard” of the game (if you don’t get that reference, seriously go watch Blade Runner before you play this, as that movie is obviously a heavy inspiration to this game), and Markus: A militant android with a messiah complex. Your in game choices will shape the outcome, and with many different ways to tackle objectives, the game will have some definite replay value. I really hope all the different elements of this game come together, because if they do, we are in for something special.

Very quickly I want to throw out some honorable mentions, Mega Man Legacy Collections 1 and 2 will be releasing for the Switch on the 22nd, and Dark Souls Remastered will be launching on all the major platforms on the 25th. I hope you found something that interested you. I know my GameFly subscription will be getting a workout this month. See you in July where the endless parade of remasters will take center stage once again. I don’t know about all of you, but the holiday season can’t get here fast enough.

Until Next Time,

Be Good To Each Other,

Lou
